Gus C. Zaso Class of 1953 Gus Zaso was another outstanding 3-sport athlete in Football, Basketball, and Baseball. As a freshman, he was the starting center-fielder for the 1950 Livingston County championship baseball team for Mount Morris. He moved to catcher as a junior where he was a huge part of the 1952 team that won the Livingston County and Section Five Championship that year. In that sectional run in 1952, he caught 2 no hitters out of 3 sectional games. In football, he was the starting Fullback for the Livingston County Championship team in 1951. This multi-talented man held jobs during his school breaks and while working one year, helped put the roof on sections of this building. At the completion of high school, he received a football scholarship to Syracuse University where he played football all 4 years there. While at Syracuse University, he played in the backfield alongside NFL Hall of Fame Running Back Jim Brown. He also played in the Cotton Bowl in 1957. After graduating from Syracuse, he went on to achieve a Master’s Degree in Education from Central Michigan University as well as a Doctorate degree in 1965 from Jordina University in Bloomington. He has served as both a teacher and administrator at many Universities including Arkansas Tech, the University of Missouri, and the University of New Hampshire. The last academic program he developed was featured in US News and World Report as the 2nd best program in the country. This man is now retired and lives out of the country in Costa Rica with his wife of 50 years.
