SEX OFFENDER INFORMATION

PROTECTION FOR YOU AND YOUR FAMILY

Dear School-Community Member,

Several years ago, in an effort to better protect children, New York State established a a Sex Offender registry, more commonly known as Megan's Law. The Registry provides information concerning sex offenders who reside in our community.

When the law was passed, guidelines and procedures were established that classified sex offenders according to risk level. This determined what information could be released to the community. Recently, New York State amended the community notification provisions to Megan's Law, expanding the information that can be provided to our community. All of the information that can be legally released is contained in this notification.

Level 1 Offenders - Low Risk of Repeat

Level 2 Offenders - Moderate Risk of Repeat

Level 3 Offenders - High Risk of Repeat

All available information is shared with vulnerable populations, including the offender's exact address. The offender is listed on the state registry which the public may access upon request. Agencies receiving information may then disseminate that information at their discretion.

For more information on the offender, you should consult the Mount Morris Police Department at 658-2155. For any additional information, please contact the Sex Offender Registry Unit of New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) at 1-800-262-3257 or their website at http://criminaljustice.ny.gov or the Mount Morris Central School Website at www.mtmorriscsd.org.

Thank you for helping us keep our children safe.
