Mount Morris - Zachary Mix

Before graduating from MMCS in 2007, Zachary Mix participated in varsity cross country, track, and swimming. He is definitely one of the best swimmers in school history. As a member of the varsity team for six years, his work ethic led him to become one of the best swimmers in all of Section V. In addition to being named the team MVP four times, Zachary was awarded numerous other accolades.

He was named Livingston County's Most Improved Swimmer in 2005, was a two-time LCAA All-Star in 2006 and 2007, and was named the LCAA's Most Outstanding Performer in the 2007 league championships. He was a winner of the Section V, Class D Swimmer of the Meet award at the sectional finals in 2005 and 2006. This is similar to being named the MVP of the Sectionals in all others sports. During his high school career, Zachary won five Section V titles in swimming, winning the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle in 2005 and 2006, and then winning the 200-yard freestyle in 2007. His performances in 2006 and 2007 qualified him to participate at the state championship meet. Zachary currently still holds three individual school records, and was a member of a relay team that holds a school record. In addition to his five Section V titles in swimming, Zachary added four more Section V titles to his resume during the spring season in track and field. As a thrower and mid-distance runner, Zachary helped lead the team to the Section V, Class D title four times in 2002, 2004, 2005, and 2006.

All told, Zachary ended his high school career with nine Section V titles. This led him to be awarded both the Chichester Cup and the Robert P. Privitera awards. After graduation, Zachary went on to swim all four years of college at Alfred University. Two out of the four years, he was a team captain. During his time there, Zachary was a three-time All-Academic team member, and Academic All-American, and was part of relay teams that set two school records. In his senior year of college, he won the Michael Schaeberle Award for leadership, dedication, team work, and work ethic.
