SAT/ACT Information and Registration
SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test) - Traditional college entrance exam used to assess students’ readiness for college. It tests students in Math and Critical Reading and Writing with an optional essay. Scores range from 400-1600. This exam can be taken multiple times and colleges will take the best Math and best Reading and Writing scores and combine them.
This test is offered multiple times a year at various testing sites. In addition, MMCSD has been able to offer the SAT School Day to students in the spring of their junior year. Registration and further information can be found at www.collegeboard.org.
ACT (American College Test) - A college entrance test that is a popular alternative to the SAT. The ACT differs in a number of ways from the SAT, both in test format and content. It measures students’ knowledge in English, Math, Reading and Science with an optional Writing section. Scores range from 1-36.
This test is offered multiple times a year at various testing sites. Registration and further information can be found at www.act.org.
Most colleges will accept either test or, if a student has taken both, the comparatively better score. It is recommended that students take either test in the Spring of their Junior year, or earlier..
