Mount Morris - Josh Harter

Josh Harter was a 2-sport athlete in soccer and basketball from the Class of 1993.  He was a Livingston County Division 2 All-Star, and AGR Honorable Mention in basketball in two consecutive seasons, 1991-92 and 1992-93.  He led our basketball team in points per game, steals, FG %, FT%, 3 pointers, and was 2nd in assists.  He averaged 15.22 points per game in 1992-93 and 14.1 points per game in 1991-92.  He was 2nd in Livingston County in 3 pointers in 1993 which helped lead him to be selected to the exceptional senior game. He was also an All-Tournament team selection in basketball in the Mt. Morris tip-off tournament, the Bob McVean memorial tournament, and Honorable Mention in the Section V tournament.  While in high school, he was the recipient of numerous awards including the Babe Ruth Sportsmanship award, the Anthony Megliore award, and the PTA Achievement award.  As an adult, he became a physical eductiona teacher and coach at Spencerport High School.  As varsity basketball coach at Spencerport, he was the opposing coach during what became a very famous game vs. Greece Athena in 2006 that included Athena manager turned player Jason McElwain scoring 20 points in the final 2 minutes of the only game he ever played in.  Sports Illustrated labeled this their #5 memorable act of sportsmanship of the decade.  In 2006, he was awarded with the Citizenship Through Sports Alliance Award, which is a national sportsmanship award selected by the National Federation of State High Schools Association.  This inductee won both the Monroe County Division 1 and Section V Class AAA Coach of the Year awards in 2008.  He is a top runner in the area and has run basketball camps for kids for many years.
