Roc Star Academy Assembly

Mount Morris CSD welcomed one of ROC Star Academy’s talented bands, Inches of Mercury, for an exciting assembly today for students in grades 5–8. The event helped spotlight our growing music program and announce that students now have access to electric and acoustic guitars, made possible through a generous donation from John “Gog” Coniglio.

ROC Star Academy was founded by Elvio Fernandes, an accomplished multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, songwriter, and producer. Since 2012, Elvio has been a member of the multi-platinum, Grammy-nominated band Daughtry.

Despite a packed schedule, having performed with Daughtry on The Kelly Clarkson Show in New York City just two days ago and preparing to head out on tour in two days, Elvio made time to visit Mount Morris CSD. He delivered an inspiring presentation and showcased the remarkable talent of his ROC Star Academy students. Elvio’s message to students was to follow their passion wholeheartedly and have confidence in their abilities, whether that passion is music or something entirely different. Inches of Mercury had the auditorium rocking, with students dancing, cheering, and having an unforgettable time.

Elvio created ROC Star Academy to help young people build confidence and discover their inner “rock star.” In addition to its East Rochester location, the Academy has recently opened a new site on Franklin Street in Geneseo, right around the corner from us.
