At the elementary level, several students earned top finishes at BOCES tournaments. Mark Shanley led the way with a 1st place finish and multiple additional placements. Brinley D’Agostino earned a 3rd place finish and was also recognized with a Sportsmanship Award, a distinction given to only one participant per division. Oliver Hull and Teddy Burnham each added 3rd place finishes.

The High School Chess Club completed its first competitive season, facing Keshequa Belfast, Perry, Warsaw, and Bloomfield across 12 matches. The team earned 15 individual wins, 3 draws, and 182 total points, gaining valuable experience and building a strong foundation for the future.

The Middle School Chess Club delivered an outstanding season, earning multiple individual medals and sportsmanship honors while competing against Keshequa, Geneseo, and Dansville. Charlie Bump earned 3rd place earlier in the season and finished with a 2nd place medal at the final tournament. Matthew Rivera earned a Sportsmanship Award and a 3rd place finish, while Sam Lonsberry added a 2nd place finish. Forest Hull earned a 4th place medal at the final tournament, and Sarah Bump was also recognized with a Sportsmanship Award. The season concluded with a championship victory at the final tournament, where Mount Morris had 11 students compete, three of which earned medals. Strong play and excellent sportsmanship were key to the team’s success.

These accomplishments reflect the dedication, perseverance, and pride of Mount Morris student competitors and highlight a bright future for the chess program at every level.
