Last week, some of our U.S. History students were able to visit the Rochester Museum and Science Center. They had the chance to investigate the history and workings of the Erie Canal, including the social and economic impact on our local area. Artifacts from the interactions between European settlers and the Seneca and Iroquois tribes were on display for the students to examine. They also took a guided tour of an exhibit that discussed Rochester’s important role in the Underground Railroad.

Over 35 MMCSD high school students from Key Club, National Junior Honor Society, National Honor Society and Jazz Band Lab volunteered to spend time with the residents at the Livingston County Center for Nursing & Rehabilitation to share holiday cheer! They sang Christmas carols, made Christmas cards, and the Jazz Band provided residents with a special performance. It went very well and we couldn’t be more proud of our students!

MMCSD eighth grade students Addyson Barnhardt, Jessimar Carrasquillo Moctezuma, Addison Coniglio, Nayshawn Hightower, Monica Lin, Willow Palermo, Tammy Schmieder and Derick Seiwell participated in the New York State YMCA Youth and Government Conference in Albany. Following three months of preparation, students from across the state attend this 3-day experiential learning program in which they serve as part of a model state government debating bills they and their peers have written. “This conference is a scaffold for leadership. Students travel to the capital and formally debate throughout the morning and into the early evening. This is done in the State Assembly, State Senate and committee chambers. It’s a very rewarding experience for the members who attend,” said Mr. Gardner, who accompanied the students on the trip.

Congratulations to our first quarter High Honor and Honor Roll students!

Congratulations to Aidan Stanley for being selected to play on the Class D Section V All-Tournament Soccer Team! “Aidan was absolutely amazing in goal for the Blue Devils Varsity boys soccer team throughout Sectional play. Aidan had a shutout in a double overtime game with 12 saves as well as 3 penalty kick shootout saves, to secure the win and advance in the first round of Sectionals. He had 10 saves in net in a close 1-0 loss in the second round of Sectionals. Aidan is a sensational player and very deserving of this award,” said Coach Connolly.
