MMCSD is celebrating Read Across America Week! JH/SH students will be reading to elementary students throughout the week and there is a different dress up theme each day: Tuesday: Wear your favorite hat, Wednesday: Wear clothes inside out, backwards or mismatched, Thursday: Wear a number or red and blue, Friday: Wear your favorite or wildest socks.

7th grade students recently completed a project where they were able to write and illustrate their own books about creatures that live in the sea. This week, they visited elementary classes and read their books to the younger students. Mr. Hamilton’s second grade students were able to share their animal research project with the 7th graders. Everyone really enjoyed this activity!

We are excited to share these photos with you from a few of the Valentine’s Day activities our students participated in this week!

Today is National School Resource Officer Appreciation Day! Thank you, Deputy Harrington for supporting our students and staff every day!

We are celebrating 100 days of school and learning!

Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week, Shaniese Brown! “Shaniese is a third-year player and Captain on the JV Girls Basketball team. She is a leader on the court on both the defensive and offensive end. Defensively, she is always all over the court and always getting her hands on the ball. Offensively, she has had some big games for us this year scoring 10 points against Warsaw, 11 against Canisteo-Greenwood, 15 against Cal-Mum and most recently, 18 against Warsaw. Shaniese has also played in a few Varsity games and has done very well. It has been an honor to have coach her since her 8th grade year. She has grown and matured so much as a student-athlete and I am excited to have been a part of her journey, I look forward to seeing her at the Varsity level,” said Coach Clark.

The Class of 2025 is all set to spread some love and deliver their carnations as part of a class fundraiser this Valentine’s Day!

Congratulations to our Athletes of the Week, Marissa Maggio and Savannah Morris! “Marissa is a 9th grader that I have coached since the 7th grade and I am honored to have been there to see her grow and become an all-around great athlete. She is this year’s Cheer Spirit Captain and a ‘jack of all trades’! No matter where you put her in a routine, she never fusses. Marissa puts in the extra effort to work out after practice and loves to help out with our Modified squad when she can. Savannah is dedicated and a super hard worker. She is constantly moving, working on a routine or helping a teammate learn a new skill. Savannah spoils the team with her baking skills and great motivational speeches! She is truly a great athlete to work with,” said Coach Mancuso.

Congratulations to our second quarter High Honor and Honor Roll students!

A huge THANK YOU goes out to everyone who provided support for our 13th annual Coaches Vs Cancer Fundraising Event! In addition to cash donations, we also had many amazing volunteers who planned, set up, worked the event and donated prizes to be raffled off! This event was a full day of on-court action, Mount Morris versus York. Spectators were able to purchase raffle tickets for prizes that were raffled off during the Varsity games and many people enjoyed a chicken BBQ from our Junior and Senior classes who were raising money for their senior trip. Leading up to this special event, each athlete on our Girls JV and Varsity Basketball teams shot 100 fundraising free throws over the course of two weeks as a pre-event fundraiser. The girls in the program obtained sponsors who donated per free throw scored or a flat donation of their choice. The JV and Varsity Girls basketball teams raised nearly $1,000! Through all of the generous donations received, t-shirt sales, and items that were raffled off the day of the Coaches vs Cancer Event, altogether we raised over $3,200! 100% of all proceeds will go to local families battling cancer and the regional American Cancer Society. If you are considering donating to next year’s event or to find out how you can help in other ways, contact MMCSD at (585) 658-5037. Thank you, Mount Morris, York and surrounding communities for your continued support!
