Today, October 18th, the Save A Life Tour came to MMCSD for the first time ever! The Save A Life Tour is a nationwide comprehensive high-impact safe driving awareness program that informs, educates, and demonstrates the potentially deadly consequences resulting from poor choices and decisions made by the operator of a motor vehicle.
Students in grades 9 through 12 learned about the dangers of impaired and distracted driving including texting while driving, sleep deprived driving, reckless driving, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The program highlighted how a brief lapse of judgement, even just a few seconds can result in serious injury or loss of life.
After the presentation, the tour included the use of two driving simulators to show students the dangers of driving while either distracted or under the influence of drugs or alcohol. In one simulation, students had to hold a cell phone and try to respond to texts while driving on the road. In the other, students wore a virtual reality headset and had to drive around for three minutes as impairment levels steadily increased.
A video was presented to all of our JH/SH students about driving while impaired. This video showed accident scenes and what car crashes can look like while they are happening. Real families who lost loved ones in car crashes shared their stories as well.
Today, students at MMCSD took the pledge to save lives!

Congratulations to our Athlete of the week, Shaniese Brown! “Shaniese contributed both an assist and a goal in our overtime win over Lima Christian. She has 5 goals and 2 assists on the season!”, said Coach James.

We would like to give a big thank you to the Mount Morris Fire Department! Today, at MMCSD, members of the Mount Morris Fire Department put on a fire safety assembly for students in Pre-k through 3rd grade. We watched video clips about preventing fires, how to stay safe in case of fire, escape routes, and calling 911. Students were then given the opportunity to tour fire trucks! Fire Prevention Week is observed each year during the week of October 9th in commemoration of the Great Chicago Fire. In 1925, President Calvin Coolidge proclaimed Fire Prevention Week a national observance, making it the longest-running public health observance in our country. You can learn how to make your fire safety plan by visiting the National Fire Protection Association website at https://www.nfpa.org/Public-Education.
