Mount Morris Elementary was excited to welcome back the Merry-Go-Round Youth Theatre for the second time this school year! The Merry-Go-Round Youth Theatre is the largest touring, curriculum-based theatre in Upstate New York. When a construction team sent to build a hydroelectric dam threatens to destroy the forest and the lives of those within, Emilia and her friends must join forces to stop them before all is lost. In this program our fifth-grade students learned how an American, a Brazilian, and all of Earth’s creatures and natural resources are connected-and why preserving the rainforest is more important now than ever!

Attention Mount Morris CSD Athletes! For students interested in participating in winter sports, triplicate forms are available at the main office. The form must be completed in full, signed by a parent or guardian and returned to Mr. Swede. Students must have a current valid physical on file prior to participation. Here are the dates winter athletics will begin: Modified Girls Basketball: October 28th; JV and Varsity Basketball: November 11th; Varsity Cheerleading: November 11th; Varsity Indoor Track: November 11th; Modified Boys Basketball: January 2nd; Modified Cheerleading: January 2nd. Did you know Fire Prevention Week is observed each year during the week of October 9th in commemoration of the Great Chicago Fire? In 1925, President Calvin Coolidge proclaimed Fire Prevention Week a national observance, making it the longest-running public health observance in our country. Today, at MMCSD members of the Mount Morris Fire Department put on a fire safety assembly for our elementary students. We watched video clips about preventing fires, how to stay safe in case of fire, escape routes, and calling 911. Students were then given the opportunity to tour a fire truck! Make your fire safety plan by visiting the National Fire Protection Association website.

Robotics club is underway for a great season! This year's theme is City Shaper. Students are building missions and programming in preparation for competition. Each Challenge has three parts: the Robot Game, the Innovation Project, and the Core Values. Our students will participate in the Challenge by programming an autonomous robot to score points on a themed playing field (Robot Game). We will be attending an official tournament, hosted by our FIRST LEGO League Partners in November.
When students are engaged in hands-on STEM experiences (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics), they build confidence, grow their knowledge and develop habits of learning. The program is built around theme-based Challenges to engage children ages 9 to 14 in research, problem solving, coding, and engineering.
