Mr. King’s students participated in a fun Egg vs Gravity activity! Students were challenged to design a device that would safely deliver an egg to the ground from a 20' drop. The device itself could not exceed 12 square inches and each student had to provide instructions on a regular size sheet of paper that would allow a third party to easily load the device.

Among the 30+ extracurricular student activities offered at MMCSD, we are excited to tell you about our newly added Mountain Biking (MTB) Club! With over 15 years’ experience racing mountain bikes, leading clubs & teams, coordinating events and working at a bike shop, English teacher and coach, Anthony Sylor not only proposed the concept of this club, he is also the advisor for it. At the start of this school year, we were able to purchase six mountain bikes. The club rides 2 to 3 days a week outside of regular school hours and interested JH/SH students can sign up in Mr. Sylor’s class room. We have sign-ups for each ride so that students can rotate taking turns because the club has proven to be very popular. “Some of the benefits for participants is improved mental and physical health. Riding 7.5 - 10 miles at a time is great exercise and builds confidence. Students also get to see nature in our community in a way they can’t otherwise. The bikes and helmets we purchased are of exceptional quality and all the students really enjoy the experience,” said Mr. Sylor. Within just one mile of the school, we have access to 70 miles of the Greenway trail and 25 miles of the Finger Lakes trail. This 25-mile section of the Finger Lakes trail is the only section of roughly 500 miles that mountain biking is allowed on and our high-quality mountain bikes are great for riding the difficult single-track terrain that this trail offers. The club also uses Al Lorenz Park, typically on a weekend where Mr. Sylor will set up a skills course. The mountain bikes have also been used to help cross train with some of our varsity teams such as our Varsity XC Team. We hope to grow the club over time and include more students.

Congratulation to our Athletes of the Week, Addison Coniglio and Jacob Zangerle! Addison has been a great team player. She is able to play multiple positions during our games and has been a successful part of our team both on defense and offense. She started out this season being a key player on defense and has now been playing offense the last two games, scoring her first goal of the season in our game against Letchworth,” said Coach Swede. “This is Jake's first year playing modified soccer and he has shown great improvement throughout the season. The boys won a game against Perry this week, 4-2 and Jake led the team in scoring with 3 goals,” said Coach Mann.

We would like to give a big thank you to the Mount Morris Fire Department! Today, at MMCSD, members of the Mount Morris Fire Department put on a fire safety assembly for students in Pre-k through 3rd grade. We watched video clips about preventing fires, how to stay safe in case of fire, escape routes, and calling 911. Students were also given the opportunity to tour fire trucks! Click on the following link to watch our picture slideshow: https://www.facebook.com/MountMorrisCentralSchool/videos/1049130009474270. Fire Prevention Week is observed each year during the week of October 9th in commemoration of the Great Chicago Fire. In 1925, President Calvin Coolidge proclaimed Fire Prevention Week a national observance, making it the longest-running public health observance in our country. You can learn how to make your fire safety plan by visiting the National Fire Protection Association website at https://www.nfpa.org/Public-Education.

Congratulations to both our girls and boys varsity soccer teams on their victories over the long weekend! The girls team won against Perry, 2-1 on Friday. “Shaniese Brown scored with 14 minutes remaining in the game off a thru ball from Adriana Mann. Shaniese also scored the game winning goal with another well placed thru ball from Adriana 1:15 into the second overtime to give Mount Morris our 5th win of the season. This win was a total team effort and there is no doubting the passion these girls have for the game. I am so proud of them and the work they have put in this entire season,” said Coach James. The boys team won against Holly Monday night, 2-1. “Junior speedster, Matt Bacon, scored two goals and Jaiden Davis added an assist. Senior goal keeper, Adam Johnson, recorded 11 saves in net and was aided by solid defensive play by Chase Young and Tyler Guzzardi. Another great team win for the boys,” said Coach Connolly.
