Today, MMCSD proudly recognized Senior, Matthew Bacon, for an incredible achievement during the 2024-2025 school year. Matthew was honored with a plaque that reads Six Sport Superstar to celebrate his outstanding dedication to Mount Morris Athletics.
Last year, Matthew competed in five sports. This year, he raised the bar by adding a sixth. Throughout the 2024-2025 school year, he represented the Blue Devils on the Soccer, Cross-Country, Basketball, Indoor Track, Golf, and Track and Field teams. Balancing six sports alone is a rare and impressive accomplishment. In addition to athletics, Matthew also completed a Syracuse University class, worked at McDonald’s, and participated in Air Force Development Training.
“Matthew’s commitment and work ethic are truly remarkable,” said MMCSD Athletic Director, Wayne Swede. “He is a great example of what it means to be a Blue Devil. He is dedicated, hardworking, and always pushing himself to be better.”
Each year, Mount Morris High School students bring positive messages to life through large, motivational art pieces displayed throughout the school. As part of an independent study in Mrs. Zawacki’s art class, students develop design concepts and select quotes that hold personal meaning, making their work both inspiring and meaningful.
“Each group spent time thoughtfully choosing a quote that would inspire their classmates. Many selected messages they felt connected to, which truly elevates the impact of their work,” shared Mrs. Zawacki.
The finished pieces measure an impressive 8 feet by 2 feet and hang above student lockers for all to see. “The inspirational art pieces are a great tradition here at Mount Morris Central School,” said Mr. Hamilton. “Mrs. Zawacki works closely with students to create themes that motivate our entire school community. Once again, our students did a fantastic job creating beautiful and meaningful artwork.”
These art pieces continue to serve as daily reminders of positivity, resilience, and school pride for all who walk the halls.

Today was a special day for two of our outstanding seniors! Our Valedictorian, Alexis Roberts, and Salutatorian, Eliza Lonsberry, fastened their names to the plaques proudly displayed at the MMCSD visitor entrance. This tradition honors their hard work, dedication, and academic excellence.
Congratulations to Alexis and Eliza on earning these remarkable distinctions as Valedictorian and Salutatorian of the Class of 2025!

We would like to thank everyone who was able to attend our Donuts with Grown Ups event! We hope you enjoy the photo slideshow and wish you a wonderful weekend! Click the link to watch the slideshow: https://www.facebook.com/MountMorrisCentralSchool/videos/1381045443179000
Two MMCSD Students Honored at Livingston County Sheriff’s Awards Ceremony
On Wednesday, the Livingston County Sheriff’s Department held its annual awards ceremony to recognize outstanding students across the county. Each year, School Resource Deputies select students who exemplify exceptional character, leadership, and service to receive either the “Do the Right Thing” Award or the “Student of the Year” Award. This year, Deputy Mattingly nominated Matthew Bacon and Eliza Lonsberry.
Matthew Bacon was recognized with the “Do the Right Thing” Award. A six-sport athlete and High Honor Roll student, Matthew has shown incredible leadership both on and off the field. From organizing team dinners to providing rides for teammates, he is known for going above and beyond to support others. Matthew is enrolled in the Syracuse University Project Advance program, works part-time, and has already committed to serving our country in the United States Air Force through their delayed entry program. He also trains monthly with special forces personnel in preparation for a specialized role in Explosive Ordnance Disposal.
“Matt embodies what it means to lead with integrity,” shared Deputy Mattingly. “Whether it's stepping up for his teammates, excelling in academics, or preparing to serve his country, he consistently chooses to do the right thing—not for recognition, but because it’s who he is.”
Eliza Lonsberry was named “Student of the Year.” Her resume is filled with leadership roles including Class President, Drama Club President, Key Club Lieutenant Governor, Student Council Treasurer, and a representative on the Governor’s Youth Council. She is also the creative mind behind the cover of this year’s Mount Morris yearbook and a winner of the Daughters of the American Revolution Essay Contest. Eliza has participated in programs such as Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership and Girls State. This fall, she will attend Yale University to double major in Archaeology and Biochemistry.
“Eliza is a true example of excellence,” said Deputy Mattingly. “She brings passion, creativity, and a deep sense of responsibility to every role she takes on. Her impact reaches far beyond the classroom.”
We would like to congratulate both Matthew and Eliza on these prestigious recognitions. Their accomplishments reflect the very best of our school community and serve as an inspiration to all.

🏅 Athletes of the Week 🏅
Congratulations to our Athletes of the Week, Morgan Luick and Matthew Bacon!
Coach James shared the following about their impressive performances:
🔥 Morgan Luick delivered a dominant performance at Sectionals in Pentathlon, winning three of the five events: high jump, long jump, and the 800m. She also placed second in the 100 hurdles and fourth in shot put, finishing with an incredible 271-point lead over the next competitor. Morgan’s hard work and dedication showed in this outstanding finale to her high school athletic career. Way to go, Morgan!
🔥 Matthew Bacon capped off a stellar season by claiming his first individual sectional title in Pentathlon! Matt took first in high jump and the 1500m, and second in both hurdles and long jump, finishing 107 points ahead of the competition. He has led the boys team in scoring all season and continues to impress. Great job, Matt!
🎉 Athlete of the Week: Lillian Mallaber! 🎉
Congratulations to Lillian Mallaber, our Athlete of the Week! 🥎
Coach Becker, who nominated Lillian, shared:
“Lillian helps guide the softball team with a constant stream of positive encouragement and direction. During a tough game against Warsaw, she rallied the team when she stepped up to pitch in the 4th inning, holding the Eagles scoreless for the first time all night. She continued to lead the Devil’s defense with two double plays, including the game-ender: jumping off the rubber to catch a pop-fly and firing to second for the final out.”
Way to lead by example, Lillian! 💙👏
🌼 MMCSD Senior Adiari Camacho continues to make us proud! 🌼
A few months ago, Adiari joined the Young Ambassadors Program at Noyes Hospital as part of the GCC Health Career Academy. This new initiative encourages youth to give back through volunteerism while exploring careers in healthcare.
